Works great.
It's a great idea but tape is flimsy
I bought this for my husband who is a furniture carpenter by trade. He loved the idea, but after wearing it at work for a few weeks, he said the tape measure does not stay attached to the magnet on the belt clip. When just turning around it will often come off. He said it might be good for a weekend diy'er.
Way more capability than I needed in an extra measuring tape. But at the price - could not pass it up.
I have had many tapes over the years but I will have to say--This is one of the best thought out ones for its' features and the magnet on it is so strong-what a great idea. It stays where you put it! The clip is designed very well so it doesn't tear your belt or pocket like so many of the other models do. I am very impressed with this tape measure and use it as my favorite one now.
I put the value at four stars because to get the most out of it, you need to use the MagnoGrip belt strap as well. Without that, it's a standard tape measure with a good standout.
The measurements are accurate (although I wish it was SAE on one side and Metric on the other), and the eight foot standout is a nice feature for larger projects. The standout is slightly longer than comparable tape measures.
The main feature, though, is the "Quick Snap", which is nothing without the associated belt clip. The back is magnetic, and that's a great feature so long as your have their clip to match it. They (MagnoGrip) make a whole line of tools that meet the same requirement, so if you're already invested, it's a no-brainer. If you are not invested and don't intend on loading up on MagnoGrip products, then most other tape measures will do equally well. There is nothing wrong with it. You're just paying for a feature you won't use if you don't have the appropriate accessories.
Versitle measuring tape with a super easy on/off magnetic holder for your belt clip. Bright yellow color shows up anywhere. Good weight and balance. Printed on both sides of the tape with numbers easy to read. The curve of the tape works exceptionally well for extending length without folding. However, the end tap is too short to hold onto the end of a board. Quick snap return works well but keep your fingers out of the way. Heavy duty design.
My old tape measures were getting pretty shot, so I got this one. I like the magnetic belt clip, in that you attach a normal-ish clip to your belt, then the tape measure has magnets which hold it to the clip. It takes away the belt or pocket ruining - constant on and off action of having to remove the integrated belt clip every time you need the tape. So in that case its quite nice. Now the actual tape measure is sturdy and will not easily break if you drop it from something high. It has a nice clean incremental measures on the tape, with each foot subdivided also into 1 through 12 versus just the total inches. So again quite handy since you can totally forget your elementary school algebra. Anyway what I would like on this tape would be a cushion when you retract the tape. The spring retract is strong but its so strong that it will eventually break or at least bend the end of the tape if you let it slam closed often. So this would be the only missing item which would make this better. All in all, its a nice tape measure.
This is a good tape measure with lots of positive features and a one minor negative.
First the positives:
I like the concept of a magnet to hold the tape in the holder. Further the magnet feature comes in handy in my shop. I have it stuck to the side of my tool box as its permanent home. Eacy to access and easy to put away so I can find it next time.
The tape itself is pretty stiff so it doesn't frustrate me when I'm trying to extend it to get a measurement.
The tape is a good size, larger tapes can become cumbersome.
The negative:
When the tape is in the mount and on my hip, it feels a bit bulky. Not a big issue but certainly something I've noticed.
This is an interesting tape measure. I've been through dozens of tape measures over the years, either losing/misplacing them, or more often the tape will break with repeated/heavy use. Although I've owned this just a short while, I suspect this will last a long, long time. The tape is made of a heavier gauge metal than most measures, and will remain suspended when drawn out to about 8 feet before collapsing ! This is very useful when trying to align the tape for measurement over longer spans (rather than trying to push the tape out over the floor or walking it over the distance to be measured).
The tape comes with VERY strong magnets that together with the magnetic holster (see picture) allow for carrying the tape in unconventional ways (see picture) -- pinning it to a pair of pants, shirt or coat without resorting to a clip -- a benefit for guys like me that end up ripping pants when the measure catches against another object.
As other reviewers have noted, the size of the numbers which are printed on both sides of the tape is a terrific help to aging eyes, helping to minimize mis-measurements.
One downside is that this is a heavy item -- not likely something I would care to lug around with me all day, and although you can "stick" it to metal surfaces, I would be reluctant to do that for fear of leaving it behind. Lastly, the packaging is a bear to remove -- fortunately that is a once and done event.
There's lots to like about this tape measure, and a few drawbacks as well. The 1" tape itself is very rigid (not flimsy) so it doesn't fold easily. There are measurement markings on both sides of the tape (great feature) and are large enough for my old eyes to read easily. The front side shows both continuous inches and feet/inches. The reverse side shows both as well but the feet/inches markings are smaller--but it also highlights (in red) each multiple of 16"--presumably to mark wall studs. The locking mechanism works easily and as expected. The belt loop and magnets are very strong and designed to keep the tape measure really handy.
As for the downsides: it is quite bulky and heavy as tape measures go--not an issue if you're a stereotypical construction worker, otherwise it is cumbersome. It doesn't feel terribly comfortable in my small hand.
Bottom line: A good sturdy product for heavy duty use.
This is really nice to use. The magnet really holds firm so you can measure without needing someone to hold the other end. Comes with a clip so you can attached to something or your belt/pocket so it is there when needed. It is heavy duty and the ruler stays straight without bending like so many others. It is very well made & has grips that make it nice to hold. Yes, I would recommend to a friend
This is a well built tape measure. Everything about it feels sturdy. Good spring retraction. Stiff tape. Durable end.
Nothing flimsy. Should last a a long time.
I originally ordered the tape measure for its magnetic "stick-ability". However, when I received it, I was pleasantly surprised by how strong the magnets (there are two) actually are. This tape measure will not accidentally fall off a belt clip or move once stuck to a metal surface - it needs a strong grip to remove it.
Besides the tape being printed on both sides, one of the biggest pluses for me is the fact that the tape surface is somewhat matte - not shiny at all - so the numbers and measuring lines are easily read and not obscured by light reflection. This makes measuring at any angle and using a flashlight in darker places a cinch.
This is DEFINITELY a worthwhile purchase if you need to measure ANYTHING!
This tape measure gives the feeling of quality and sturdiness. Not a toy - really works.
This is a nifty tape measurer. I can actually see the numbers and markings. I know it is hard to move up in age but I refuse to give up on my projects. This tape measurer will certainly help with all my measuring. I highly recommend this product.
I got this measuring tape to replace a cheap older one that became warped and dangerous. The MagnoGrip measuring tape is made of high quality materials and is very sturdy. The tape itself is quite thick and does not bend when extended and partially in the air. The tape also has measurement markings on both sides which is an excellent feature.
I love the magnet on the tape and the belt clip that comes with it, the clip is very strong. The magnet is also very strong, so if you bump it, the tape does not get dislodged from the clip. You can also stick the measuring tape to a ladder when working up high. This is a great product and worth every penny.
Great product easy to use don't have to fight getting it hooked onto your belt or bag
The magnetic part concerns only the way the tape measure attaches to anything. The belt clip is a separate entity that clips onto your belt & provides a metal plate that attracts the 2 magnets on the tape measure. The tape measure will also adhere to any ferrous metal such as your tool box lid. Because of the weight of the tape measure, it would not be comfortable to wear for long periods of time. The 1" wide tape is impressive. It extends over 7' before bending under its own weight. The tape is easy to read with a diamond mark at the 19 7/32" increments. The inch markings are red at every 16" interval. The retract mechanism is very fast & powerful. It could cut flesh or damage other objects in its path. Fortunately, the release button is also a brake that can be used to slow the retract speed by thumb pressure.
This tape measure is a wholesome one - although it is larger than I expected and weighs about a pound, it is not too cumbersome to use. It has a handy feature where you can clip it onto your belt, and just remove it from the magnets to use it. (The magnetic force is a bit too strong for me, and I have to work at it to remove the clip, but I doubt I would be using the belt clip anyway.) I like the rubberized grip areas and it feels secure in your hand. The lock to hold it open and the snap close features work great.
This has very easy to read numbers and are on both sides of the tape. One side has the usual horizontal markings, but the other side has the numbers vertical. Each 12" is marked with both the number of feet and the number of inches. Every 16" is colored in red. There are a few more markings on this tape, but since there was paperwork included, I have no idea what they would be. (It would have been nice to include instructions for people who have not seen this kind of tape measure before.)
The little metal grippers on the end have good, sturdy catches which I find very helpful.
If this came with instructions, I would have given it 5 stars. Having never had a magnetic tape measure, it took a while to figure out how I was supposed to get it out of the blister pack, but I'm sure I am in the minority.
Nice, heavy duty tape measure. It has a magnetic belt clip. The clip itself is magnetic which can be attached to a metal surface and the tape measure itself has magnets which can be attached to the belt clip or to a metal surface. The magnets have a strong hold but makes for convenient removal and reattachment to the belt clip. This is the first I've seen of this kind.
I've got 4 tape measures at thome, and this is one of the best. Numbers are easy to read. The wide tape stays straight when extended (my other ones tend to bend after a few feet), nothing flimsy here. The magnets are strong and allow it to "stay put", allows you to measure things without needing a second person to hold the other end. Can't miss bright yellow color. It's substantial in weight and not easily tipped over (the con of this is that it's relatively heavy to carry around and it just adds to the weight of your other tools). Universal belt holder is a plus but this item can easily be stuck on anything metal (like a tool box). Good tool to have. Competitively priced. Highly recommend.
The tape has a magnetic holder that clips over a belt or pocket so when the tape is in use, so the back of the tape case is flat instead of having the metal clip attached to the tape measure. The clip stays on your belt. The thumb mechanism to retract the tape works very well. Numbers and 1/32" increments on the tape are very easy to read.
This tape is easily readable, marked on both sides (one side is oriented for vertical measurements) and has plenty of 'standout'. The lock button works fine. The attached magnets add some weight but are very strong and it's nice to be able to stick this to a ladder or a toolbox, and the magnetic belt holder is very convenient. Can't really think of a reason to spend more on a tape.
